TRAFFIC and People's Postcode Lottery: Joining forces to Fight Wildlife Crime
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery are helping strengthen crucial action to stop the illegal trade in wild species.
Thanks to the funding raised by players, TRAFFIC is able to boost efforts to combat wildlife crime, protecting wild animals and plants, preserving precious ecosystems and supporting local communities who depend on native species for their livelihoods
Specifically this includes our partnership with TRACE Wildlife Forensics Network [link], to enhance forensic capabilities and laboratories across Africa, ensuring investigators and prosecutors have access to cutting-edge technology.
An example is the establishment of Malawi's first wildlife forensics lab, a direct result of the incredible support from People's Postcode Lottery players. Equipped with advanced techniques, the lab is empowering local scientists and law enforcement officers to prosecute wildlife traffickers and protect threatened species.
Global wildlife trafficking syndicates constantly change their routes and methods to evade detection and arrest. Monitoring and analysis are therefore essential to stop them in their tracks. The funding we receive through the Postcode Animal Trust will enable us to gather more data, as well as share this evidence with policymakers and law enforcement, making a real difference in the global battle against wildlife crime.
We would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to players of People's Postcode Lottery. You are helping us tackle illegal wildlife trafficking across oceans, forests and continents, directly helping protect wildlife and preserve the biodiversity on which we all depend.
