Artist makes a splash with “Vanishing Treasures”

Shanghai, China, 16th October 2013—Water artist Wang Xieda recently used his skills to highlight the rapid disappearance of rhinos, elephants and tigers to Shanghai residents in a "Vanishing Treasures" event that attracted widespread media attention.

Wang Xieda “painted” the various animals in water on a Shanghai pavement. And thanks to the warm autumn temperatures, his artwork literally evaporated in front of passers-by’s eyes, symbolising the loss of iconic wildlife.

“TRAFFIC and WWF China warmly thank artist Wang Xieda for helping deliver this vital conservation message in such a novel and striking manner and also Ogilvy & Mather for their generous support and creativity in helping bring about this remarkable event,” said Jianbin Shi, Head of TRAFFIC’s Programme in China.

“Our team here in Ogilvy really appreciated the opportunity to contribute to the fight against illegal wildlife trafficking and working with the WWF-TRAFFIC team was a great experience for us—we learnt a lot from them,” said Sean Sim, Executive Creative Director for Ogilvy & Mather Advertising Shanghai.
