ROUTES has developed a range of tools for companies to deliver training on wildlife trafficking prevention for their staff.
The materials include e-learning courses and presentations in various lengths for a range of transport roles and geographies. The resources are available in English, French, Mandarin, Portuguese and Spanish, and can be used or adapted free of charge.

Red flag indicators for wildlife and timber trafficking in containerized sea cargo
The report equips frontliners in the container shipping sector with information to enhance the detection of suspicious cargoes and possible non-compliance. It captures known red flags for illegal wildlife trade, with a focus on high-risk routes, cover-loads, and other smuggling methods used for species commonly found smuggled in containers. It also includes a dedicated section about CITES and examples of how its permit systems have been circumvented.
FIATA-TRAFFIC digital course on the prevention of wildlife trafficking
The two-hour online course, developed by FIATA equips freight forwarders with the information they need to protect themselves from inadvertently transporting smuggled wildlife products and how to report and respond to instances of wildlife trafficking.
The course contributes towards the minimum requirements needed to obtain the FIATA Diploma in Freight Forwarding. It is available in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese and Russian.

PortMATE – Port/Border Crossing Monitoring and Anti-Trafficking Evaluation Tool has been designed as an additional assessment tool fully complementary to the ICCWC Indicator Framework for Combating Wildlife and Forest Crime and focused mainly on ports.

Combating IWT through ports video
Reducing Maritime Trafficking of Wildlife between Africa and Asia Project
Between 2018 and 2023, the UNDP-GEF-USAID Project has supported multiple activities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda to increase the capacity of government agencies and the private sector in the prevention and interception of wildlife trafficking in maritime supply chains through the ports of Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, and Kampala dry port.

For all supply chain participants, advice on measures to take, questions to ask to help identify criminal wildlife trade and guidance on reporting suspicious activities. An accompanying "Red Flags" document serves as a daily reference for all individuals involved in the supply chain.
