Rosewood Products and Consumption
This study reveals the socio-demographic profiles of rosewood product purchasers, their product preferences, purchase channels, motivations to buy and deterrents against consumption. While the research identifies directions for behaviour change approaches that would promote the responsible consumption of rosewood products, the focus should also be given to the effective delivery of a campaign to the “diehards” buyers who neglect legal risks and conservation risks and reject alternative sustainable products. Combined efforts should be made by the industry to improve rosewood product supply-chain traceability, and this should be backed up alongside enhanced law enforcement efforts to remove the laundering of illegally sourced timber into legal and sustainable supplies.
