Elephant Trade Information System (ETIS), training workshop held in Kinshasa
Kinshasa, DRC, September 2008—Enforcement officials from the Democratic Republic of Congo received training on use of the Elephant Trade Information System (ETIS) during a workshop organised byTRAFFIC's Central Africa office last month in Kinshasa aimed at strengthening application of Convention on International Trade in EndangeredSpecies of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) regulations.
The 23 participants came from Congolese public institutions responsible for wildlife law enforcement, namely the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Tourism, Congolese Institute for the Conservation of Nature (ICCN), Institute of the Congo Zoological and Botanic Gardens (IJZBC), Wildlife Resources and Hunting Department (DRFC) and Office of Customs and Excise (OFIDA) as well as national and international NGOs involved in the implementation of conservation programs / projects biodiversity.
