The report analyses several existing international fisheries regimes, and identifies gaps in the conservation of sharks. Gaps are of two general types - geographical and functional gaps. A comparison of the range of key species of sharks with the jurisdiction of existing fisheries management regimes reveals large gaps in some areas.
